This little lighthouse of mine

In this project you will create a set of mini lighthouse paintings to reflect a single theme. You will select the images you would like to include and then think about how you crop and position them within your painting, whilst considering size and scale.
This is a lovely project which can be adapted to suit any theme and a great way to record a memorable holiday or excursion. I was lucky to spend a week in Norfolk a couple of years ago staying just a stone's throw from Happisburgh Lighthouse. This beautiful red & white lighthouse is a well loved local landmark and can be seen from quite some distance as it rises above the virtually flat landscape which surrounds it.

It wasn't until I returned home and looked through my photographs that I noticed I had managed to capture it from almost every angle, near and far! It was then that I thought a montage of these photographs would make a great painting project!

To begin, you will select the number of images you wish to include and then draw a simple outline using permanent fine line pen. Once complete you will start to add colour, working mainly onto dry to achieve crisp colour.

In the accompanying videos I will take you through each of the different viewpoints from start to finish ~ so just go straight to the ones you would like to complete! They can be completed in any order and can be scaled up or down to suit your own ideas.
When applying colour we will use quite a limited palette and add detail working darker colour onto pale using a damp brush to blend edges where desired.
To find out more about this project, take a look at the short video below:
I hope you really enjoy this project ~ it's a great way to get to grips with making design decisions, which will help you to develop your own ideas based on your own research/photographs. It's also a really accessible project as you can alter the number of paintings you complete to accommodate the time you have!
Happy Painting!
