Happy New Year!

I hope this year brings you lots of good things along with the chance to carve out a little 'me' time for some watercolour painting.

In the first project of the year, I'm going to try and encourage you to create using less colour, less detail and hopefully less effort as we let the paint and water lead the way. This project is all about experimenting with ideas and techniques to create a range of mini winter landscapes without the pressure of producing a highly detailed painting.

To begin, I will guide you through the main techniques and once you have learnt the basics you can develop your own ideas by incorporating and layering some of your favourite effects. Working small really takes the pressure off and allows you to feel freer and paint freer so you're not caught up in perfectionism. With no drawing required in this one, you can focus on the flow of your paint and discover how your use of water can create flowing colour ~ the paintings will almost seem to paint themselves!

To find out more about this project, take a look at the video below.

I hope you have fun with this project ~ you can experiment with your colour choices and if you alter the colour theme from winter to summer or autumn you can keep on using the techniques to create landscapes the whole year through!

Once your mini paintings are complete, make sure you take a look at the final finishing touches video where I will show you some ideas on how you might like to collate and use your tiny landscapes.

If you really enjoy painting using this method you can try upscaling your mini paintings to create larger versions ~ just upscale your brushes.

Happy Painting!
